Paint correction, sometimes known as machine polishing is a systematic application of varying grades of compound and polish to achieve unbelievable results. No two vehicles will have the same sort of paint, every manufacturer, model and even colour will be different. So having a good knowledge of paint and products is essential. At KDS we pride ourselves with extensive knowledge in these very important areas. Machine polishing can remove up to 99% of swirl marks, light scratches, bird stains, water marks, buffer marks and more to restore your paintwork to a "better than new condition". This process can also restore dull or faded paintwork back to its original state. It is all about surface evaluation, diagnosis is the key; not guesswork. The most important first step in the process of paint surface detailing is diagnosing the paint surface; density of clear coat (hard or soft) or single stage paint, colour, surface condition; ascertain the severity of the surface blemishes with an inspection light and the paint thickness available, measuring with a paint thickness gauge will dictate the choice and abrasiveness of polish/compound for correction or renovation level required or indeed possible.

A sound understanding of the proper technique and the correct process will produce excellent results even with a mediocre product. A quality product used without the proper surface preparation or application technique will never obtain a satisfactory result. Using the proper methodology (surface preparation, using a quality product, along with the correct application technique) will ensure an excellent result every time. The products you use constitute a very small factor in the equation. Methodology and technique constitute 95%; the reasoning behind the choice of quality products is to eliminate any limiting factors, thus enabling us to place emphasis on the techniques we use. Our paint correction can take between 10hrs for a minor correction and up to 100 hrs for a major correction, and this is just the machine polishing. The finish left from our paint correction details often needs to be seen to be believed. We can also give you tips on products and washing methods that will help ensure you can keep your car looking as good as the day it was detailed.

Our minor paint correction package has been put together mainly for nearly new or vehicles in very good condition with just slight paint imperfections. This detail uses the same process as our 'Enhancement Detail', your car will then undergo a single stage paint correction process to remove all visable surface defects and back to a level where 98% of paint defects are removed. Also the package to go for if your vehicle has had previous paint correction carried out within the last 12 months. This can also be carried out on vehicles with more severe paint defects, to strike an exceptional balance between a stunning finish and value for money, ordinarily we acheive a 75% correction of the paint‘s surface finish.

Time: Approx 15-20hrs (3 day booking)

Designed for vehicles with severe paint defects. Mainly caused by poor hand washing techniques or automated car washes, these leave your vehicle covered in heavy swirl marks and scratches leaving it looking dull with very little depth of colour. Other defects that can be removed with this process are light car park scrapes, water marks and bird dropping stains. The darker the colour of your vehicle, the more noticeable these defects will be. Although lighter colours will not show damage as much as a darker colour, the defects are still there. The vehicle will require a 2 stage paint correction (dependant on colour and density of clear coat), the first stage is with a light cutting compound (darker colours will require a heavy cut compound first) to remove visable surface defects this will take all paint surface back to a level where no defects are visable apart from some machining marks. The last stage of machine polishing is to remove any visable machine marks from the previous stage of correction and will ensure maximum gloss finish. The process will remove a very small percentage of the top layer of clear coat on the vehicle in order to reveal a fresh layer of unmarked paint beneath and would usually take between 20 and 30 hours of machine polishing alone and would achieve 85% correction and will clearly bring your vehicles paintwork back to an exceptional condition. Recommended as a yearly or one-off treatment.

Based on the silver package but longer machine time and interior/engine clean included. We will get the finish back to an 'as new' condition The paintwork will benefit from a 2-3 stage paint correction process; again depending on the colour and density of clear coat (darker colours with harder paint will take considerably longer). For those darker colours and harder paints, more aggressive compounds and pads need to be used. Leather is cleaned, fed and conditioned, the engine will be cleaned and dressed and if your car has a soft top that will be cleaned and sealed too. Multiple layers of very high quality wax/sealant are applied for outstanding protection. With between 25-40hrs correction, we would achieve 90% correction.

You will be amazed at the level of finish we achieve with this detail, no matter what the condition of the car may be to start with - we will get a finish better than when the vehicle was brand new. This is taking paint correction to the next level, removing light to medium scratches (deeper scratches can be removed with wet sanding), severe swirls, oxidisation, bird droppings, water marks and any other imperfections. The paintwork benefits from paint levelling and a 3-5 stage paint correction process; again depending on the colour and density of clear coat (darker colours with harder paint will take considerably longer). For those darker colours and harder paints, more aggressive compounds and pads need to be used to create that ultimate finish. Nothing is left untouched with this detail including interior, engine and exterior trim is removed to get to those hard to reach areas (also cleaned whilst off the vehicle). Leather will be cleaned, fed and conditioned. If your car has a soft top that will be cleaned and sealed too. Multiple layers of very high quality wax/sealant are applied for outstanding protection. Between 50-100hrs, yes 100hrs of machine polishing. We would achieve 99% correction (total paint thickness is sometimes a restrictive aspect). Another advantage to this package is stone chips will be touched in to complete the overall appearance (note - due to make up of pearl and metallic paint, some touch ins may still be visible to the naked eye). Here at KDS we can offer a bespoke show car/concours preparation treatment for any show, competition or magazine shoot. We don’t have a set process/package, in each case we will agree a detailing package with you in advance and then charge a fixed price for all work carried out.
